Phoenix /fēniks/: (in classical mythology) a unique bird inhabiting the Arabian Desert that burned itself on a funeral pyre before rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle.
This isn’t mythology, it’s war, and Hendy is left in the hands of Hell’s cruelest gatekeepers.
His team is killed before his very eyes, and despite his efforts to save them, he’s captured and subjected to merciless torture—losing virtually every piece of his identity but his pulse.
After his rescue, he returns home from Afghanistan, saddled with facing the daunting task of healing his physical scars as well as the invisible ones—his emotional demons.
Dr. Presley Cole isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. Embarking on a new journey, she makes it her mission to prove to Hendy that his life isn’t over; that he’s worthy of love.
Because sometimes even a phoenix needs help to rise…
Out of the Ashes.

What a wonderful heartwarming story. R C Boldt has written a story jam packed with so much emotion that you can’t help but feel you’re seeing right into the character's heart and soul. And what characters they are. You have the crazy bunch of hard core special service ops that work for TriShield Protection (including Hendy), Presley, Lucia and Heath, and the wounded servicemen that travel with Heath. It’s all these wonderful people that will not only keep you glued to the pages but will make you want to just hug them and never let go. The camaraderie, the zany banner, the compassion and even the Love of Jeopardy will keep you smiling, laughing and yes at times tearing up (but in a good way) throughout the book.
The storyline will touch your heart as you read the events involving Hendy, a Navy Seal, that had been captured and tortured repeatedly but was now home, a broken man but such a fighter. His struggles to accept who he is and to live with the outward and inner scars is a daily battle. Lucky for him he has a strong group of friends for support and an a funny compassionate doctor, Presley. As for Presley: she is a funny, quick witted doctor that has struggles of her own; parents that don't accept her life choices and a fiancée and love-life that are both all but nonexistent. Can she help Hendy accept who he truly is and what he can be? Perhaps Hendy’s strength and courage can help her along the way too.
You have craziness that turns to coziness, friendships that endure anything thrown at them, characters that fight to succeed and want to just be loved and accepted all at the core of the marvelously well written book. A storyline that if could, I’d give it way over the rating of 5 stars. Kudos to a wonderful book of love, romance, and learning to love and accept oneself. 2 Thumbs Up for an awesome must read!

This book gives you all "the feels". What an amazing story of survival, grief, pain, love, acceptance, and overcoming life changing events. It's how love can open you up and help you lease the bad that is holding you back. It's about Hendy and Presley and their amazing and entertaining love story!
This but is very well written and extremely entertaining with it's house full of characters, but most importantly is the relationship between Hendy and Presley and their love, not only for each other but for Jeopardy!!! Yes..that's right!!! Then there is the added entertainment of Hendy's roommate... the Texas drawling Kane. He's quite a firecracker!!! I loved these characters so much and I hate that I have finished the book because I miss them already!
The characters are well written and developed/complex in their own ways. Hendy is quite complex, but considering everything he's been through it is quite understandable. Presley is a wonderful strong female lead and I just love how she is with Hendy and helping him to show himself more. Kane..although he is a supporting character, I just feel like I have to bring him up because he just cracks me up with his "darlin-ing" everybody...including the men!!! He is such a total trip and I think he would be so much fun to be around. I really enjoyed his scenes with Hendy....he was a friend, a jokester and he was solid when Hendy needed someone to kind of set him straight.
This is a wonderful book, a wonderful story and I Highly Recommend this 10 star book (that I could only give 5 stars to). I promise you....you will not regret it. It is truly a amazing read!
RC Boldt is the wife of Mr. Boldt, a retired Navy Chief, mother of Little Miss Boldt, and former teacher of many students. She currently lives on the southeastern coast of North Carolina, enjoys long walks on the beach, running, reading, people watching, and singing karaoke. If you're in the mood for some killer homemade mojitos, can't recall the lyrics to a particular 80's song, or just need to hang around a nonconformist who will do almost anything for a laugh, she's your girl.
