Meet the Author
Astrid V. Tallaksen grew up with a heart for stories of creatures and places outside of this world. Her love of reading quickly became a love of writing. She spent several years creating content and helping writers to improve their craft on the online world of Althanas, a creative writing workshop in the guise of a roleplaying forum. A self-avowed nerd, Astrid loves science fiction, comic books, and eighties fantasy movies in the vein of The Princess Bride and Labyrinth. Her geekiness extends to annual volunteer work at the massive sci-fi convention known as Dragon*con every year in Atlanta, Georgia. In the odd times that she's not immersed in geekdom or writing, Astrid loves to sing karaoke, crochet, and spend time with her family and pets.

Interview with Sirens
1.When and why did you begin writing?
In kindergarten for a young writers contest. I must have written before that, but that's the first I remember.
2.When did you first consider yourself a writer?
While writing my first novel, At Death's Door
3.Do you plot out your books on paper? Or seat of your pants?
Definitely seat of my pants.
4.Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Most of them are just made up, but there are a couple, especially in At Death's Door that were based on personal experience.
5.What books have most influenced your life?
A Ring of Endless Light by Madeleine L'Engle, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, Bridge to Terabithia (can't remember the author)
6.If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Probably Diana Gabaldon. I learned a lot about style and voice and writing love scenes from her.
7.What book are you reading now?
Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat
8.What are your current projects?
I'm working on a fantasy novel about a young orphan raised by a criminal syndicate to be a master assassin. I'm also collaborating with Bridget Blackwood on a book about a selkie who lost her ability to change back into a seal and the witch who helps her.

10.Is there anything you find particularly challenging in writing?

Madeleine L'Engle. Her stories have always struck me with major truths about life and the world around us.
12.Do you have any advice for other writers?
Even if you don't think you have any good words to put down, write anyway. Bad words are better than no words.

Probably my assassin book that I'm working on.

Very. I never know how it's going to do.
